From Milkshake Meet Ups To Gettin Hitched!
Andrew and I first met while on a college retreat with our church several years ago. During my time in college, I would come home to Raleigh and we would always catch up with one another but never really hung out or anything. I remember thinking he had such an adventuresome life and of course his blonde, almost white hair always stood out to me! I graduated from Appalachian State University this past May and moved back home to Fuquay-Varina. Andrew and I attend the same church and were in a Bible Study together all summer. Still living the college experience, I always wanted to do something and hangout with people, but it seemed like everybody was busy. Not Andrew, he was always up for doing something. Haha I was not going to just go hangout with him though. One thing he and I both have in common is our love for country music!!! During the summer, we attended the Rascal Flatts and Alan Jackson concerts. For a while, we were hanging out in groups until Andrew got up the nerve to ask me to hangout one on one. One day he called me and asked "hey do you want to get a milkshake and hangout?!" I could not think of a reason to say no so I agreed to meet him at Cookout for a milkshake. It was a Wednesday night and I remember it well. The day of our milkshake date, I was trying to think of every reason to back out, but could not think of one. So we met up and boy did we hit it off! The first "meet up" we sat outside of Cookout for 3 hours talking! It was so great! We had so much to talk about and it was never awkward or anything. I knew things were going well when I had specific things on my mind like where he stands spiritually and without having to ask, he just poured his heart out to me! After our first meet up, we enjoyed it so much and felt like there was more to learn about each other. So we decided to meet the same time the very next week at the same Cookout. This time I was wanting to know what he was thinking and his views on how our relationship should look and what his past ones were like. Again, without me even asking he poured his heart out! At this point I was completely amazed by Andrew (and still am!). After that he called my dad and asked for permission to date me, Andrew shared his intentions with me, and now here we are getting married! The Lord has been so good to us and we could not be more happy! We have both been praying for God to prepare the perfect mate for us. We both feel that we are marrying way out of our league, but know that God has orchestrated the entire thing! Our families and friends have been so supportive and influential in our lives . We know they will continue to be as we start life together! Our prayer is that our marriage would exemplify the Gospel and bring glory to our Savior!
The Proposal
Andrew went home to see his parents for Christmas, so we decided to do Christmas with one another the day before Christmas Eve. We had already decided that we were going to give each other Bibles for Christmas. After I got off work, I went over to his house to meet him. We went out to dinner and then came back to his house to exchange gifts. I gave him his presents to start. Then he gave me mine. While dating, we never told each other "I love you" until we knew that we were the "one" for each other! I opened the Bible Andrew gave me he had written a note and at the end of the note it said "love always". At that point I was thinking that he was thinking "he's going to tell me he loves me" or "he's going to propose!". He had also written a reference for a passage in Genesis. He read the passage to me. It was the famous passage talking about man and a woman leaving their families to become one. At that point I knew what was about to happen. He got down on one knee, told me he loved me and asked me to marry him! I of course said YES and that I loved him with all my heart! He then told me my family was all waiting with some friends at my parents house to congratulate us! It was perfect!
Our Wedding
We were married on April 17, 2010! It was everything we ever dreamed of and more! We were so blessed to have our closest family and friends be apart of such a special day for us!
